FPS isn't the dominate team from last year, we almost lost the Piedmont game having to win in OT at their place. This will be the signature question this week with back to back home games against Solid Rock and Flint River. I will have a better idea on Saturday afternoon but I would never count Furtah out.
Boys Region tourney seeds Terrell Windsor SGA Westwood Crisp
Girls SGA Westwood Terrell Windsor Crisp
I have only seen SGA and WW play. Despite the SGA loss, I still like TAE as the favorite for region 3AA boys. I think our girls are better than they were last year at this point in the season. Last year they didn't peak until the region tournament. If they are peaking early, your 3 seed is probably accurate. We still have a whole month of basketball before the tournament though. Don't count them completely out just yet. They only lost to SGA by 2 points.
I still think Brookwood is the clear favorite in the region and you probably can flip Southland and Deerfield back and forth for the boys. Valwood and TA May be closer than I originally thought which is somewhat surprising. Southland handled Valwood fairly easily in Americus Tuesday while TA hung around with DWS for longer than I thought they would.
As far as the girls side, the top 3 probably will be a mess that will be the most competitive it’s been in a while I think. Not sure how it will play out. TA can mess up the hopes of others by pulling off some upsets but I think they will be stuck in the four spot at the end of the regular season. And as usual Valwood will finish 5th.
After watching the games Friday and Saturday here is my prediction on 1AA boys:
1. Furtah 2. Piedmont 3. Solid Rock 4. Oak Mountain (State A) 5. Flint River (State A) 6. Brandon Hall 7. Young Americans 8. St. George 9. Lagrange (State A)
2-6 could easily be swapped out for each other, I also added the State A teams as they obviously will not be in the AA State Tourney.
As FPS girls are not playing this year I cannot give a good assessment of any girls team in AA.
A small update Brandon Hall has a couple of big guys and some speedy guards, made the first 1/2 difficult for us till our pressure wore them out in the third qtr. The boss (my wife) pointed out that Young Americans are better than 7 on this list and they just beat Solid Rock last night. Three losses in Region 1 for them two from us and one from Oak Mountain, I would agree they could contend for a playoff spot in the region.
buck, u r correct it is still early. it is nice to be 2-0 and atop the region at this point in the season but too many games left to say how the region will shake out and both cats and lady cats still have much room to improve if they hope to have a meaningful playoff run. sga last night was another grind it out win for both teams in a great environment against a much disliked but well respected rivalry team. another much disliked but respected basketball program awaits fri nite in cordele - ww should fill up there side of the gym and our teams need to be ready to play all 4 quarters.

Yes FPS just played each Region team at least once, the only teams I have not seen on our court is Piedmont and Lagrange, 9-0 in region with 7 more Region 1 games left will be an intense two weeks. The teams playing in the State A Tourney will possibly move 1-4 after the Region Tournament.
With a large number of Region 1 girls in the A State this will remove a 4 team in Region 1, this gives the Region 3 1 seed a bye...maybe another reason to be top dawg.
1-4 are all deep. Loganville, Bethlehem, JMA, and Westminster are all quality basketball teams and are going to be problems for everyone at the State Level. Any of these teams can beat the other teams on any given night. The region tournament is going to be a lot of fun.
But: I predict the state champion to come out of Region 1 AAA. Both Heritage and Creekside (as of recently) are very good basketball teams. Since the addition of Shaquille O'Neal's son at Creekside, they haven't dropped a game. I'm really looking forward to see these two teams play on 30th.
jodypeterman: JMA, Fred, Heritage, Tiftarea, Southland, Valwood, Loganville Christian - and BA and Pinewood looking like they can beat somebody. Sorry for sending JMA twice. Not used to typing on desk top.

thehammer: The only “sit out rule” the GHSA has is when a kid doesn’t make a actual address move into another district!

thehammer: if they move to an address in a new school district and live with legal parents or guardians they don’t sit out!

thehammer: The GHSA “sit out” Transfer rule only applies to kids that don’t move into new schools district! If they make a address change to the new district, actually live at new address with legal parent(s) or guardians they don’t sit out!

tuckydawg: Big game down in Valdosta Friday night when Lowndes takes on Colquitt County. The contest between the #1 and #3 teams in 7A should be a great one. Go Pack.
